Training & CPD · workshops for coaches

Staying current in coaching psychology.

Two one-day online workshops for coaches and aspiring coaches, built from what keeps coming up when we supervise and train other coaches. Led by chartered psychologists who supervise and train coaches, with no more than twelve people in the room.

01The workshops

Two days. Book one, or both.

The second workshop builds on the first, and it also stands on its own. Each day runs from 9.00 to 4.30, online and interactive.

Groups are kept to twelve so the day can be worked through together rather than listened to. Places go in the order they are booked.

  1. Workshop 1

    Self-as-Instrument: vertical development for coaches

    Friday 30 October 2026 · 9.00–4.30 · Online

Led by Dr Cordet Smart, with special guest Sam Farmer

Coaches know their approach should be non-judgemental and centred on the coachee. In practice, the coach’s own perspective shapes every session. Understanding that perspective, and what informs it, is what lets you use yourself with more skill.

This interactive day asks you to reflect on your own background and experience, how aware of them you are, and the particular thing you bring that helps a coachee change.

You will leave with a better understanding of

    • Your own coaching philosophy
    • How to apply your self-as-instrument in your coaching practice

    Special guest

Sam Farmer, Chartered Coaching Psychologist and Director of Edge Coaching, joins Dr Cordet Smart to co-facilitate this workshop.

  2. Workshop 2

    Formulation in coaching

    Friday 27 November 2026 · 9.00–4.30 · Online

Led by Dr Cordet Smart and Dr Craig Newman

Formulation goes beyond naming the problem to the context holding it in place. This day explores models of formulation in coaching, and how the coach’s own philosophy shapes the formulation and the coaching relationship that follows.

You will build skill in formulations that are:

    • Unique to the coaching context
    • Brought in at the contracting stage
    • Developed further throughout the coaching relationship

    You will leave with

    • Practical skills in formulation
    • More ability to work with complex clients
    • Your coaching philosophy built into every formulation you make

02How the day runs

Live, small, and worked through together.

  1. Format

    Online and interactive

A full day of live training with both facilitators, not a recorded course.

  2. Hours

    9.00 to 4.30

Six and a half hours of training across the day.

  3. Group

    Twelve at most

Small enough for everyone to take part and to learn from each other’s practice.

  4. For

    Coaches and aspiring coaches

Advanced CPD aligned with coaching psychology. Take the days in order, or come to the second on its own.

The workshops start from the needs we meet when we supervise other coaches, not from a model looking for an audience.
