What happened, and what came of it.
In response to an identified need, and in collaboration with local education groups and schools, Public Health Dorset developed a novel approach to funding projects aimed at improving physical and mental wellbeing for children and young people at the same time.
They wanted an independent evaluation of the approach itself, and a view on how it could be refined if used for future funding.
We designed a bespoke evaluation of Public Health Dorset's approach, using the experiences of stakeholders and schools to extract the learning about the process: how the design evolved, how it was implemented, how it was perceived, what worked well and what could be improved.
A learning guide and a regional webinar took the findings back to every partner, so the learning stayed in the county.
The final report gave the team realistic goals for repeating the process and a clear account of where it had succeeded.

An 18-month NIHR-funded project with the University of Exeter, exploring how clinicians and people with epilepsy talk about risk in NHS clinics. It applies conversation analysis, a specialist method for revealing how communication actually works, to show how different phrasings change what a patient hears.

A free, evidence-based tool that helps UK clinicians hold a real conversation about epilepsy risk in the clinic. Craig sits on the Adult Checklist Development Group, and our research team published the case-control validation of the risk factors it asks about, and the studies of what happens when clinicians actually use it.
GP TeamNet
Regional NHS implementation programme
We evaluated the journey and the learning from 18 months of implementation work with GP TeamNet, then turned it into implementation guidelines written to support national NHS spread.
